We supply continuous inkjet, laser and thermal transfer as well, and each has its place. Thermal inkjet earns its spot when these matter to you.
The code has to be sharp
High-resolution text, logos and 2D codes up to 600 DPI. Ideal for GS1 DataMatrix, serialisation and small print on pharma and cosmetics packs.
Easy to look after
The printhead is built into the cartridge, so a new cartridge means a new head. Day-to-day care is a quick wipe of the nozzle plate; there are no pumps, filters or ink circuits to service.

A thermal inkjet cartridge holds both the ink and the printhead. Hundreds of tiny nozzles each fire a droplet of ink when a small heater behind them pulses, building up the code dot by dot as the product passes. Because the head is part of the cartridge, you never clean or replace a printhead separately: when the ink runs out, the next cartridge brings a fresh one.
The ink you choose decides what you can print on. Water-based inks soak into porous surfaces like cartons and wood. Solvent-based inks dry fast on non-porous surfaces like plastic, film and metal.

What can a Marksol TIJ printer print on?
Cardboard and corrugated, paper and labels, plastics and PET, metal, wood and board, cables, electronic components, auto parts, chemical packaging and pharmaceutical packs. Porous surfaces use water-based ink; non-porous surfaces use solvent-based ink. Send us a sample and we'll confirm the right cartridge.
How fast can it print?
The UMS10 prints at up to 406 m/min at 150 DPI. The UMS20 prints at up to 240 m/min at 150 DPI and 120 m/min at 300 DPI. Higher resolutions mean slower top speeds, so we match resolution to your line speed and code.
How big a code can it print?
From 1 mm up to 12.7 mm on the UMS10 (one cartridge) and up to 25.4 mm on the UMS20 (two cartridges stitched together). Both print at 150, 300 or 600 DPI.
What maintenance is needed?
Routine care is simple: wipe the cartridge nozzle plate with a lint-free cloth when print quality drops or after the line has stood for a while, and cap or remove the cartridge for longer stops. Because the printhead is part of the cartridge, there are no pumps, filters or ink circuits to service, and a new cartridge always brings a new head. We show your operators the cleaning routine during training.
How long does a cartridge last?
Each cartridge holds 42 ml. How many prints that gives depends on code size, resolution and ink density, which is why the controller shows the cost per print in real time. For high-volume lines, large-capacity ink bags and continuous ink supply are available.
Can it print GS1 DataMatrix for pharma?
Yes. Both models print GS1 DataMatrix, QR and barcodes with GTIN, batch, expiry and serial data, with variable databases and anti-counterfeiting trace data. The UMS10 also supports the GS1 international medicine monitor code.
Can it connect to my line and systems?
Yes. Photocell and encoder inputs, alarm outputs, reverse printing control and external data selection are standard, with network, USB and RS-232 for live data from scales, weighers or your ERP. Several printers can be managed centrally over the network.
What support and warranty do I get?
Every printer comes with a manufacturer warranty backed by our national team: on-site installation, operator training, remote troubleshooting, and cartridges and spares held locally in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
